Within the framework the USAID-funded “Building Alliances for Local Advancement, Development and Investment –Capacity Building (BALADI CAP)” project, the Lebanese Foundation for Permanent Civil Peace (LFPCP) conducted its Fourth high level steering committee meeting on the 1st of February 2018 to discuss with the project partners and stakeholders the steps that were achieved so far, and to agree on the coming phase.
The meeting was spearheaded by Deputy Yassine Jaber MP Chair of the Parliamentary Committee in charge of following up on the implementation of laws, and with participation of MP Joseph Maalouf, MP Khaled Zahraman, MP Shant chinchinian, Mrs. Alia Abbas Director General at the Ministry of Economy and Trade; Dr. Antoine Romanous Head of Department at the Ministry of Health. Meanwhile the LFPCP team included Mr. Rabih Kays Project Director, Dr. Antoine Messarra - President of the Foundation.
Also representative of LIBNOR participated in the meeting, and the Project experts.
The main discussions throughout the meeting were on the Video Spots that were produced by the project and one of them is already broadcasted through the different TV channels, also some of the discussions were on the 2nd national discussion group that will take place at the ministry of health on 6th of February 2018. Also each of the project experts presented the different implementing decrees that were drafted by them. The drafted implementing decrees are related to a three identified laws which are: The Law of Protection of Confidential DNA Information for Lebanese Citizens, Food Safety Law, and The Law of Measurement and Scaling System in Lebanon.
The project “Building a rule of law society: to enhance bases of Democratic Governance and Rule of law” is aimed at advocating for the issuance of government decrees to implement three key laws already passed by Parliament.
